Envorimental Pollution is common problem for all countries. There are lots of gases, dusts, exhaust gases and aeresols in the Atmosphere in different sizes. Some of the particles are there naturally in the envoriment. Some of them are caused from the industralization.

Air Pollution is harmfull for Human Health. It is known fact that Industrial Processes causes most of the Air Pollution. At this point Air Filters become important.

Air Filters can be used in needs of the Industral Processses as well as in Human Health. There are laws, regulations and standarts in Europe and USA for that matter. Turkey has accepted European Norms (EN).

Criteria for the choice of air filters:

 

The atmosphere around us is poluted by a number of differance substances, for istance, solid or liquid particles (aerosols) or by different impure gases. Some such impurities may habe natural causes but oyhers are man-made. Air pollution is not only a serious risk to our health and a threat to our environment, but it can actually damage many chemical, physical and biological processes in all fields of industrial production.

At this point air filters and specific crierias become important.

There are three main criterias that cn be used to evaluate air filters and to compare their performance at a rate dair flow.

Efficiency: The most important criterion is the filter efficiency, specified as percentage according to EN 779 : 2003. Classification is determined from the average filtration efficincy eith respect the particles of 0,4 micrometer diameter. HEPA and ULPA filters are tested according to EN 1822. Dust Holding Capacity: The dust holding capacity (in grams) indicates how much test dust is retained by an air filter under test conditions until the final pressure drop is reached.

Pressure Drop: Pressure drop specifies the flow resistance of a filter operating at an air flow rate (expressed in Pascal's) and is dependent on the air velocity through the filter media and amount and type o dust.

Particle distribution at the atmospher in shown at below diagram: Particles are around 5-10 microns can be retained by G3-G4 filters. It means that we can hold these particles (right bow at the diagram) %90. Particles are around 0,2-1 microns (left bow at the diagram) can't visible by human eye and can be held by F7-F9 filters. Smaller than 0,2 micron particles are only held by HEPA and UIPA filters.
